Join us for the sixth annual Up-Start! Competition!

The Up-Start! Competition is a business pitch competition for 2010/11 Entrepreneurship 101 students.

Individuals or teams will have 10 minutes to pitch their business idea—and they must apply concepts from Entrepreneurship 101 to make a compelling business case.

Business ideas must fit into one of the following four categories:

  • Information and communications technology (ICT)
  • Cleantech
  • Life sciences and health care
  • Social Venture

The top business plan and presentation will receive a prize of $10,000, plus $5,000 in in-kind services from Tabrizi Law Office.

An additional prize of $10,000 will be awarded to the Best Blended Value Opportunity—one that has demonstrates a social, health or environmental impact while balancing financial returns. This prize comes from an anonymous donation of $5,000, matched by SiG@MaRS.

A company may only win one of the two prizes.

The audience will vote to determine the winner of the People’s Choice Award.

This year’s finalists are:

  • 180 Urban Solutions
  • Eve Medical
  • Henna Heals
  • LocaWoka
  • ManFinst
  • MuiskemRukkis.com
  • The Hot Plate
  • Virtual Wallet

All attendees are required to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
